photo of the day: Ruddy Shelducks

Ruddy Shelducks are rare passage migrants, very distinctive by their orange-colored bodies that fade to almost white on their heads; the Male has a black ring at the bottom of the neck while the female often has a white face patch. In captivity this species is generally aggressive and antisocial and is best housed in pairs unless in a very large area.
